  • Jets' Haydn Fleury: Heading north for 2024-25

Fleury signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Jets on Wednesday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.

Fleury played in 24 regular-season games for the Lightning last year, earning five points with 40 blocked shots and 31 hits. The 27-year-old did not make a postseason appearance. Fleury will have a tough time getting much NHL time in 2024-25 and should be expected to be a frequent healthy scratch or an organizational depth option at AHL Manitoba.

  • Josh Mahura D | FLA

Kraken's Josh Mahura: Inks one-year deal with Seattle

Mahura signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Kraken on Wednesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Mahura filled a depth role with the Panthers last year, but he didn't draw into a playoff game. He made just 30 regular-season appearances, picking up nine assists, 40 hits, 27 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating. He'll join fellow former Panther Brandon Montour in Seattle, but Mahura is likely to have to settle for being a seventh or eighth defenseman depending on how Ryker Evans performs in training camp.

  • Devils' Dougie Hamilton: Ready for 2024-25

Hamilton has fully recovered from his pectoral injury, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Wednesday.

Hamilton didn't play past Nov. 28 because of the injury. He underwent surgery for a torn pectoral muscle Dec. 1 and was placed on long-term injured reserve Jan. 25. Having Hamilton healthy for the 2024-25 campaign will give the Devils a big boost. He excelled in 2022-23 with 22 goals and 74 points in 82 regular-season contests and recorded at least 30 points in nine consecutive campaigns before being limited to 20 contests in 2024-25. If not for the injury, he would have almost certainly extended the streak -- he already had five goals and 16 points last season before getting hurt.

  • Robert Hagg D | LV

Golden Knights' Robert Hagg: Bolstering Vegas' depth

Hagg signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Golden Knights on Tuesday, per PuckPedia.

Hagg played in just five NHL games with the Ducks last year, and he added 12 points in 47 contests for AHL San Diego. He's unlikely to see regular playing time with the Golden Knights, but he could fill in as a depth option when injuries arise.

  • Jack Johnson D | CLB

Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Returning to Columbus

Johnson signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, per PuckPedia.

Johnson had a seven-year stint with the Blue Jackets earlier in his career, which accounted for most of his most successful seasons. At 37 years old, it's unlikely he returns to his former glory on offense. Instead, Johnson will likely serve as a veteran leader for the Blue Jackets' young roster, and he's expected to fill a third-pairing role.

  • Nate Schmidt D | FLA

Panthers' Nate Schmidt: Links up with Florida

Schmidt signed a one-year contract with the Panthers on Tuesday, Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press reports.

Per CapFriendly, his salary will be $800,000. Schmidt was bought out by the Jets ahead of free agency and will now link up with the defending champions. The 32-year-old defenseman has been little more than a third-pairing option in recent years, but he'll replenish the Panthers' blue line while reuniting with head coach Paul Maurice. Schmidt had 14 points, 76 blocked shots, 66 hits and a plus-10 rating over 63 regular-season appearances in 2023-24.

  • Maple Leafs' Philippe Myers: Agrees to one-year pact

Myers signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with Toronto on Tuesday.

Myers generated four goals, 23 points and 67 PIM in 61 regular-season contests for AHL Syracuse in 2023-24. He didn't earn a point in five regular-season appearances with Tampa Bay this past campaign despite earning six shots on goal, eight hits and six blocked shots. Myers will probably spend most, if not all, of 2024-25 in the minors after getting a look at Toronto's training camp.

  • Maple Leafs' Dakota Mermis: Inks one-year deal

Mermis signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with Toronto on Tuesday, according to CapFriendly.

Mermis compiled three goals, eight points, 42 shots on net and 59 blocked shots in 47 regular-season appearances with Minnesota in 2023-24. As a member of the Maple Leafs, he will compete for a depth spot on the roster out of training camp.

  • Blues' Pierre-Olivier Joseph: Lands one-year contract

Joseph signed a one-year, $950,000 contract with St. Louis on Tuesday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Joseph compiled two goals, nine assists, 42 shots on net, 44 blocked shots and 47 hits across 52 regular-season contests with Pittsburgh in 2023-24. He will add some depth to the blue line of St. Louis. Ottawa traded forward Mathieu Joseph to the Blues on Tuesday, allowing Pierre-Olivier to be on the same team as his older brother.

  • Ducks' Brian Dumoulin: Swapped for fourth-round pick

Dumoulin was traded to the Ducks from the Kraken on Tuesday in a swap for a 2026 fourth-round selection.

Dumoulin apparently has found himself as the odd man out after the Kraken signed Brandon Montour to a seven-year deal Monday. After spending his first 10 seasons with the Penguins, the veteran blueliner will now be on this third team in as many seasons after spending just one year in Seattle. While Dumoulin has reached the 20-point threshold twice in his career, that is certainly not the norm for the blueliner, who is more likely to offer between 15-20 points per season.
