Not since Tiger Woods in 2005-06 has the British Open been won by Americans in back-to-back years. That could change at the 2024 Open Championship after Brian Harman won at Royal Liverpool last year. The Open Championship 2024 will be held at Royal Troon in Scotland, with play beginning on Thursday, July 18. Americans have won each of the last six majors and could complete the 2024 sweep with a victory at this year's British Open.

Americans dominate the top of the 2024 Open Championship odds board, with Scottie Scheffler listed as the 15-4 favorite. Other contenders include Xander Schauffele (10-1) and Bryson DeChambeau (12-1), while Irishman Rory McIlroy is the second-favorite at 8-1. Harman is listed at 60-1 to repeat, while Woods is an even bigger longshot to utilize in 2024 Open Championship bets at 125-1. Before locking in your 2024 Open Championship picks or Scottie Scheffler props, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 13 majors entering the weekend, including the 2024 Masters -- its third Masters in a row -- and this year's PGA Championship and U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now with the Open Championship 2024 field taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 Open Championship predictions

One major surprise: Jordan Spieth, a 28-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. At his previous start at Royal Troon at the 2016 British Open, Spieth got off to a rough start at 5-over par after three rounds. However, he seemed to figure out the course in the final round shooting 2-under par for a score of 68. While it only netted him a 30th-place finish in the tournament, just three other golfers shot better than Spieth's 68 in the final round. The following year, Spieth would win The Open, and he's been in contention at the major for the better part of the last decade.

Spieth has seven top 25s over his last eight Open Championship appearances, including that 2017 win and four other top 10s. This year on tour, Spieth is combining efficiency with both his driver and putter. He ranks in the top 20 in strokes gained: off-the-tee (0.466), total driving (89) and putting average (1.717). That, combined with an average leaderboard finish of 13.4 over his last eight Open Championship starts, makes Spieth an underrated contender at Royal Troon.

The model has also examined where Scheffler finishes. The 28-year-old has six victories, plus two runners-up, over his last 10 starts, and leads the PGA Tour in multiple statistics, including total strokes gained and scoring average. He collected those six wins before the month of July, becoming just the sixth golfer in PGA Tour history to accomplish that feat. However, Scheffler finished 41st at the U.S. Open, which was his worst finish over his last nine major starts, and he's finished outside the top 20 in each of his last two British Open starts.

While he has a pair of career major victories, none of those have come outside of Augusta National, though it's not like Scheffler hasn't been competitive outside of the Masters. He has an astounding 11 top-10 finishes over his last 16 major starts, including half of his last six major tournaments resulting in top-3 finishes. His best-ever finish at the British Open was an eighth place in his debut there in 2021, and he followed that up with a 21st-place finish (2022) and then a 23rd-place finish (2023). The model just locked in its Scottie Scheffler Open Championship picks here.
