Angels' Abel De Los Santos: Invited to Angels camp
De Los Santos was invited to Angels camp for spring training.
Although the 24-year-old has enjoyed some success at the upper levels of the minors, he has struggled when given the opportunity to pitch in the majors. In just 7.1 major league innings over parts of the past two seasons, De Los Santos has accumulated a 9.82 ERA with as many walks (5) as strikeouts (5). He will likely serve as organizational bullpen depth for the Angels in 2017.

Angels' Abel De Los Santos: Designated for assignment
De Los Santos was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday.
The Angels needed to clear spots on the 40-man roster for more promising young players, in order to protect those players from the Rule 5 draft, and De Los Santos got the bump. De Los Santos has enjoyed some success at the upper levels of the minors but he's had control issues in recent years and hasn't fared well against big-league hitters when given a chance.

Angels' Abel De Los Santos: Claimed by Angels on Friday
De Los Santos was claimed off waivers by the Angels on Friday.
De Los Santos became a member of the Reds partway through the 2016 campaign and, although his first cup of coffee with the big league club didn't go well, he posted strong numbers out of the bullpen in the minor leagues, including an 11.6 K/9 at Triple-A in the Nationals' organization. The 23-year-old could definitely compete for a roster spot out of spring training given the poor state of the Angels bullpen.

Reds' Abel De Los Santos: Promoted from Double-A
De Los Santos was recalled from Double-A Pensacola on Monday.
The 23-year-old Dominican hurler pitched well over 23.1 innings at Double-A Pensacola, allowing just four earned runs while posting a 25:7 K:BB. He should provide the Reds with some bullpen depth in September, but is unlikely to see many high-leverage situations.

De Los Santos was claimed off waivers by the Reds on Tuesday.
De Los Santos has spent time at both Double-A and Triple-A within the Nationals organization this season, amassing a combined 3.67 ERA across 29 appearances. He'll join the Reds 40-man roster and will initially be optioned to Double-A Pensacola.

Nationals' Abel De Los Santos: Optioned to Triple-A
De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.
The 23-year-old righty reliever has not yet pitched at Triple-A, so the Nationals will allow him to get some reps in there at the outset of the season before giving him a shot in the big league bullpen. His strikeout numbers in the minors are pretty impressive, but his command is still a bit of an issue.
