  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Likely to miss 2-to-3 weeks

Reds manager David Bell said Monday that he expects Friedl (hamstring) to return from the 10-day injured list in 2-to-3 weeks, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Cincinnati placed Friedl on the IL on Monday after he aggravated a left hamstring strain in Sunday's 7-4 loss to Boston. The Reds called up Levi Jordan from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move to burnish their depth in the outfield, but Stuart Fairchild could be given the first opportunity to replace Friedl as the club's everyday center fielder.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Back to IL with strained hamstring

The Reds placed Friedl on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right hamstring strain.

Friedl initially tweaked the hamstring a week ago and missed two games before returning to action, but he aggravated the injury in Sunday's 7-4 loss to Boston. The trip to the IL is the third this season for Friedl, who also missed time with wrist and thumb injuries. It's not clear how long he might be sidelined.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Ends hitless skid

Friedl went 2-for-5 in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Boston.

Friedl's fifth-inning single snapped an 0-for-16 run. Later in the same inning, Friedl was thrown out at home trying to score on an infield grounder -- one of three baserunning miscues in the game. After missing most of the first two months of the season due to injuries, Friedl is healthy and has started 19 of the 21 games since returning from a second stint on the injured list in late May.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Lays down productive bunt

Friedl went 0-for-2 with an RBI and was hit by a pitch in Friday's 5-2 win over Boston.

Friedl, who was hitless in 14 consecutive at-bats when he came up in the seventh inning with runners in scoring position, was thinking bunt. The player that led the majors last season with 17 bunt hits laid down a squeeze bunt. When the throw to the plate got past Red Sox catcher Connor Wong, both runners scored, giving Cincinnati some separation. Friedl is batting .209/.320/.372 with six steals, four home runs, 16 RBI and 14 runs scored through 24 games.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Back in Cincinnati lineup

Friedl will start in center field and bat leadoff in Friday's game versus the Red Sox.

Friedl missed two games after his hamstring tightened up on him Monday, but he's ready to go now following the Reds' team off day Thursday. Although he's slashed just .214/.320/.381 so far in an injury-shortened season, Friedl does have four home runs and six stolen bases over 97 plate appearances.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Remains out Wednesday

Friedl (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

He'll take a seat for the second day in a row while he recovers from a tight hamstring, which he sustained while making a diving catch in the fifth inning of Monday's 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh. The Reds seem to be viewing Friedl as day-to-day, but a trip to the injured list could become more realistic if he isn't ready to play coming out of Thursday's off day. Friedl's absence Wednesday will open up a spot in the outfield for Stuart Fairchild.
