  • Reds' Will Benson: Contributes to win

Benson went 1-for-5 with a stolen base, two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 9-4 win over St. Louis.

Benson had a two-run single, stole a base, then scored as part of Cincinnati's six-run fifth inning. The outfielder has four RBI over the last three games, which follows a miserable 14-game stretch during which he was 1-for-31 with no runs driven in.

  • Reds' Austin Wynns: Makes season debut

Wynns went 3-for-5 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Cardinals.

Wynns was added to the roster Friday when the Reds placed Tyler Stephenson on the paternity list. The 33-year-old Wynns is not expected to survive on the roster past this weekend.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Steals base in win

Marte went 0-for-5 with a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Cardinals.

Marte reached base and knocked in a run on a fielder's choice before swiping a bag and scoring as part of the Reds' six-run fifth inning. He's had double-digit steals in three consecutive years and is on his way to a fourth straight season with two thefts in three games since being reinstated from suspension. After collecting three hits in his first four at-bats off suspension, Marte has gone 10 at-bats without a hit.

  • Reds' Jake Fraley: Logs hit in return

Fraley started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 9-4 win over St. Louis.

Fraley returned to the lineup after missing three games with a calf injury and was given a soft re-entry at DH. The Cardinals have right-hander Lance Lynn scheduled to throw Sunday, so the lefty-hitting Fraley should get another start.

  • Reds' Stuart Fairchild: Steals 10th bag in win

Fairchild went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Cardinals.

Fairchild hit a two-run single, stole second and scored in a six-run fifth inning for the Reds. He later added a double in the ninth frame. Fairchild has registered at least one hit in six of his last seven contests and swiped three bases since June 25. On the season, the outfielder is hitting .232 with four home runs, 22 RBI, 21 runs scored and 10 steals over 172 plate appearances.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Extends hit streak to 11 games

India went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Cardinals.

India hit an RBI double and scored in the second inning, and then added another RBI double in the seventh. The second baseman is on fire, hitting safely in 11 consecutive games and registering multiple hits in eight straight. He has increased his average to .279 with five home runs, 34 RBI, 38 runs scored and eight steals over 311 plate appearances this season. The 27-year-old will likely continue to hit leadoff until TJ Friedl (hamstring) returns from the injured list.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Steals 40th bag in win

De La Cruz went 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Cardinals.

De La Cruz hit an RBI double in the third inning and followed it up with his 40th steal of the season. He then tripled and scored in a six-run fifth frame for the Reds. After going eight games without a steal, the 22-year-old has now swiped a bag in three consecutive contests and continues to lead the league in the category. He struck out three times to bring his league-leading season total to 110, but De La Cruz is nonetheless batting .255 with 14 home runs, 37 RBI and 55 runs scored over 355 plate appearances.

  • Reds' Carson Spiers: Logs quality start in win

Spiers (2-1) earned the win against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts over six innings.

Spiers allowed an unearned run in the third inning and surrendered a solo home run to Paul Goldschmidt in the sixth. He has now thrown exactly six innings in each of his three starts this season and has posted back-to-back quality start victories. On the year, the 26-year-old owns a 3.13 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 29:7 K:BB over 37.1 innings and lines up to face the Tigers next week.

  • Reds' Jake Fraley: Back in lineup Saturday

Fraley (calf) is starting in right field and batting fourth Saturday against St. Louis.

Fraley missed three games after being scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to a bruised calf, but the issue has subsided ahead of Saturday's contest. The 29-year-old outfielder currently owns a career-best .277 batting average on the season; however, his .676 OPS represents his lowest mark since joining the Reds in 2022.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Sitting Saturday as expected

Candelario (hamstring) isn't in the Reds' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Manager David Bell said Friday that Candelario is trending toward a return for Sunday's series finale, so it isn't too surprising to see the 30-year-old infielder absent from Saturday's lineup. Spencer Steer will once again get the nod at first base, and Noelvi Marte will cover the hot corner.

  • Reds' Luke Maile: Sitting Saturday

Maile isn't in the Reds' lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

After going 0-for-6 to begin the series, Maile will get a breather against Sonny Gray and the Cardinals on Saturday. Austin Wynns will take over behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Reds' Will Benson: Logs steal in loss

Benson started in right field and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 1-0 loss to St. Louis.

Benson, who was given a rare day off against a righty Wednesday, was in the starting lineup for a second consecutive game against a right-hander Friday. He stole his 10th base of the season, putting himself in scoring position, but Cincinnati was unable to get a key hit (1-for-10 with RISP). While Benson has struggled in 2024 -- he snapped a hitless run of 25 at-bats Thursday and is batting .191 -- the Reds have a couple of outfield injuries that should keep him in the lineup over the weekend. They are scheduled to face another righty, Lance Lynn, on Saturday.

  • Reds' Luke Maile: Enters starting lineup

Maile started at catcher and went 0-for-3 in Friday's 1-0 loss to the Cardinals.

Primary catcher Tyler Stephenson was added to the paternity list Friday, which means Maile could handle the catching duties over the weekend. Maile is batting .188/.288/.281 over 37 games.

  • Reds' Frankie Montas: Handed tough-luck loss

Montas (3-6) allowed a run on two hits and three walks over six innings Friday, striking out five and taking a loss against St. Louis.

Montas gave up an RBI sacrifice fly to Alec Burleson in the third inning but otherwise didn't face too much trouble. However, the Reds were shut out by the Cardinals and Montas was stuck with the loss. He generated 17 whiffs, his second-highest total of the year. He's produced back-to-back quality starts and has three in five outings this month. Montas lowered his season ERA to 4.23 with a 58:30 K:BB through 72.1 innings. His next start is projected to be on the road against the Yankees.

  • Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Aiming for Sunday return

Candelario (hamstring) is on track to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Candelario hasn't played since Tuesday as he tends to hamstring tendinitis. However, he's set to make his return for the series finale Sunday and will avoid a stint on the IL. In his stead, Noelvi Marte should continue to start at third base while Spencer Steer handles first base work, but it's not yet clear how the workload at the infield corners will be divided between the trio once Candelario is healthy.

  • Reds' Jake Fraley: Expected to play Saturday

Fraley (calf) is expected to be back in the lineup Saturday at St. Louis, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Fraley has missed two consecutive contests with a right calf contusion, but he's on track to return Saturday. Santiago Espinal has drawn starts at DH in Fraley's place.
