  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Keeps power surge going

Ramirez went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI double and two total runs scored in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Royals.

Ramirez has already had a strong first half of the campaign, but he's been especially impressively lately. Over his last 12 games, he's batting .340 (17-for-50) with five homers, four stolen bases, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored. He's now hitting .280 on the year with an .890 OPS, 23 homers, 75 RBI, 64 runs scored and 15 steals. He's on pace to return to the 30-homer mark for the first time since 2021, and he could have a chance to challenge for his first 40-homer campaign.

  • Guardians' Darren McCaughan: Loses 40-man spot

The Guardians designated McCaughan for assignment Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

McCaughan will cede his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Gavin Williams (elbow), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. Since the Guardians acquired him from the Marlins on May 9, McCaughan made two appearances out of the Cleveland bullpen, giving up six earned runs on nine hits and six walks over six innings. He'll stick around in the organization as starting depth at Triple-A Columbus if he clears waivers.

  • Guardians' Gavin Williams: Returns from 60-day IL

The Guardians reinstated Williams (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Cleveland designated right-hander Darren McCaughan for assignment and demoted right-hander Triston McKenzie to Triple-A Columbus to clear spots on the 40-man roster, 26-man active roster and in the rotation for Williams, who is poised to make his 2024 debut for the Guardians during the club's three-game series versus the White Sox this week. Williams had been on the shelf all season after injuring his right elbow during a weighted-ball workout in spring training, but he looks to be stretched out for starting duty after covering five and four innings in the final two of his six rehab outings at Triple-A Columbus. After turning in a 3.29 ERA in 16 starts as a rookie in 2023, Williams makes for an appealing pickup in shallower formats where he might still be kicking around on the waiver wire.

  • Guardians' Triston McKenzie: Demoted to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned McKenzie to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Through the first three months of the 2024 season, the historically injury prone McKenzie has enjoyed a clean bill of health, but he's performed well below expectations for both the Guardians and fantasy managers alike. After failing to escape the third inning while giving up five earned runs in his most recent start Friday in Kansas City, McKenzie now holds a 5.11 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 75.2 innings on the season. The Guardians will send the right-hander to the minors with the hope that he'll be able to right the ship and eventually slot back into the big-league rotation. Gavin Williams (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list and will fill McKenzie's spot in the rotation during the upcoming week.

  • Guardians' Jhonkensy Noel: Crushes second homer

Noel went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Royals.

In his fourth big-league game, Noel launched his second big-league homer, and it wasn't a cheap one -- the 22-year-old ripped a Cole Ragans slider down the left-field line in the fourth inning, and the ball left his bat at 115.4 mph. Per Mandy Bell of MLB.com, it was the hardest-hit home run by a Cleveland player since Statcast was introduced in 2015. Noel has started two of four games since his promotion, going 3-for-9 with a double in addition to the long balls, but the Guardians will find room for him in the lineup more often if he keeps displaying this kind of power.

  • Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Notches third straight win

Bibee (7-2) picked up the win Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings in a 7-2 victory over the Royals. He struck out three without walking a batter.

The right-hander looked shaky early, serving up solo shots to Vinnie Pasquantino in the first inning and Michael Massey in the second, but Bibee didn't let a runner even get to second base after that. He's reeled off three straight wins, all quality starts, and he'll take a 3.47 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 109:22 K:BB through 93.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Giants.

Rocchio will be absent from the lineup for the second time in three games. He went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday's 10-3 loss to Kansas City. Gabriel Arias will start at shortstop and bat ninth against Royals southpaw Cole Ragans.

  • Guardians' Zak Kent: DFA'd by Cleveland

The Guardians designated Kent (elbow) for assignment Saturday.

  • Guardians' Darren McCaughan: Optioned to Columbus

The Guardians optioned McCaughan to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

After being recalled by the big club Thursday, McCaughan pitched four innings against the Royals on Friday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out one. The move makes room on the 26-man roster for right-hander Eli Morgan (elbow), who was activated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Guardians' Eli Morgan: Activated off IL

The Guardians activated Morgan (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Saturday.

Morgan will return from his second IL stint this season after recovering from right elbow inflammation. He made two rehab appearances in Triple-A, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over 1.2 innings. To make room for Morgan on the 26-man roster, Darren McCaughan was optioned to Triple-A Columbus.

  • Guardians' Matthew Boyd: Placed on IL

The Guardians placed Boyd on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left elbow injury.

Boyd signed a one-year deal with the Guardians on Thursday. The left-hander continues to progress in his rehab from Tommy John surgery last June, and the Guardians don't expect Boyd to enter the rotation until August, per Tom Withers of the Associated Press. Boyd started in 15 games for the Tigers in 2023, going 5-5 with a 5.45 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 71 innings.

  • Guardians' Austin Hedges: Registers second steal

Hedges went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Royals.

Hedges has hit safely in his last three games, going 3-for-8 in that span. The backup catcher has had a tough time seeing steady action with Bo Naylor and David Fry both ahead of him on the depth chart. Hedges is at a .154/.188/.246 slash line with one home run, two steals, nine RBI and six runs scored over 69 plate appearances. He should not be expected to produce much offense even on the rare occasions he's in the lineup.

  • Guardians' David Fry: Trio of hits in loss

Fry went 3-for-4 with two doubles in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Royals.

Fry is 12-for-40 (.300) over his last 12 contests, adding five doubles and two RBI in that span. That's a bit less all-around production than he was showing earlier in the campaign, but it's still a solid showing. He's now at a .316/.422/.532 slash line with eight home runs, 32 RBI, 28 runs scored, four stolen bases and 13 doubles through 60 games. Fry has mostly seen time at designated hitter and catcher recently, but he could also be an option in right field while Will Brennan (ribs) is on the injured list.

  • Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Smacks homer in loss

Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Royals.

Ramirez is up to six homers and 16 RBI over 21 contests in June while hitting .294 (25-for-85) for the month. The third baseman opened the scoring Friday, but the Royals poured on seven runs before the Guardians had a response. Overall, Ramirez continues to provide elite all-around production with 22 homers, 73 RBI, 62 runs scored, 15 stolen bases and a .278/.332/.547 slash line through 77 contests.

  • Guardians' Triston McKenzie: Roughed up in loss

McKenzie (3-5) took the loss Friday in Kansas City, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks over 2.1 innings with three strikeouts.

The Cleveland right-hander closed out a tough month with this performance, failing to pitch past the third inning for the third consecutive start. Over five June starts, McKenzie posted a 9.33 ERA, 2.13 WHIP and 19:15 K:BB across 18.1 innings. The 26-year-old is currently scheduled to face the White Sox at home in his next outing.
