  • Tigers' Jake Rogers: Goes deep in loss

Rogers went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and three total RBI in Saturday's 6-5, 10-inning loss to the Angels.

Rogers delivered a key blast in the top of the sixth inning to put the Tigers up 5-2, but Los Angeles scored the final four runs of the contest to spoil his effort. The Detroit backstop is now up to six long balls this season in 51 games, which is a step back from last year's pace, when he swatted a career-high 21 homers in 107 contests. Rogers is still capable of getting hot quickly, though he's splitting time behind the plate with Carson Kelly, which either player's ability to sustain much momentum.

  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Pitches well in no-decision

Olson allowed two runs on five hits across six innings and did not factor into the decision in Saturday's contest against the Angels. He walked three and struck out nine.

The nine strikeouts are a new season high, though the three walks also matched a season high, as Olson was a bit all over the place Saturday. He still managed a solid outing overall despite missing out on his third win of the year. The righty's 2-8 record isn't fitting of his 3.32 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 89.1 innings this season. Olson will look for a little better luck and some more run support in his next scheduled start, which is penciled in for Friday against the Reds.

  • Tigers' Shelby Miller: Takes tough loss Friday

Miller (4-6) allowed three runs on three hits across an inning of work and took the loss Friday against the Angels. He struck out two.

Miller allowed two hits but had a chance to escape the eighth inning with no damage before he allowed a two-out, three-run home run to Logan O'Hoppe. The veteran righty had been pitching well this month with a 2.25 ERA across seven appearances. However, Miller now has a subpar 4.62 ERA overall, which he'll work on lowering in the coming weeks.

  • Tigers' Kenta Maeda: Yields two runs

Maeda allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out four during the loss to the Angels.

Maeda was tagged with a two-run shot by Luis Rengifo in the first inning but settled in for a solid outing. In six starts since returning from the injured list, Maeda has registered a 4.71 ERA. That's helped lower his season mark to 5.76 alongside a 45:19 K:BB through 59.1 frames. Maeda hasn't earned a win since May 24 and hasn't finished at least six innings since May 1. He's in line for a road start against his former team, the Twins, next week.

Malloy is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.

Colt Keith will serve as the designated hitter Friday while Andy Ibanez starts at second base against Angels right-hander Zach Plesac.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Allows three homers in loss

Flaherty (5-5) took the loss against the Angels on Thursday, allowing five runs on seven hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.

Flaherty got tagged for a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the second before proceeding to strike out six of the next nine batters he faced. However, the right-hander would go on to surrender two more long balls on the night as the Tigers failed to back him with anything on offense. Flaherty had allowed one run or fewer in four consecutive starts coming in, and no runs in three of his previous four. The three home runs he gave up Thursday also marked a season high.

  • Tigers' Jake Rogers: Sitting again Thursday

Rogers is not in Thursday's lineup against the Angels.

  • Tigers' Mark Canha: Sitting Thursday

Canha is absent from Thursday's lineup against the Angels.

Canha had started Detroit's last 22 games but hit only .211 in that span. Gio Urshela is sliding to first base, Matt Vierling to third, and Adkil Baddoo enters the lineup in left field.

The Tigers optioned Montero to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Montero was recalled from the minors to serve as a bulk reliever for Wednesday's game, during which he allowed five earned runs in just 4.1 innings. He'll now head back to Toledo in order to free up a roster spot for Alex Faedo (hip), who returned from the IL on Thursday.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Returns from injured list

The Tigers reinstated Faedo (hip) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Faedo made three rehab appearances at Triple-A Toledo, during which he gave up one run over three innings while striking out four batters and walking four. He owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 34.2 frames in the majors, and he'll slide back into a middle relief role now that he's been cleared to rejoin the Tigers' bullpen. Keider Montero was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Cleared for baseball activities

Jung (wrist) has been cleared for baseball activities following a visit with a hand specialist Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Jung was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Toledo last week with right wrist soreness, an injury which had been nagging at him since May. He's on the comeback trail, though, as he'll report to Single-A Lakeland to begin a rehab assignment before eventually making his way back up to Toledo. Jung, 23, has slashed .270/.390/.500 with 11 home runs over 64 games this season in his first taste of Triple-A ball.
