  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Continues to rake

Rengifo went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's win over the Tigers.

Rengifo singled in his second trip to the plate before swiping his 21st bag of the season and later coming home to score the Angels' first run of the contest. The third baseman would add another single in the seventh before coming around to score for a second time, giving him his fourth-consecutive multi-hit game as well as his fourth straight game with at least one run scored. Rengifo has really come alive on offense as of late, batting .325 (13-for-40) over his last 10 contests with two homers, four RBI, three stolen bases and nine runs scored. His .317 average on the season puts him at second in the majors behind only Shohei Ohtani.

  • Angels' Griffin Canning: Struggles continue in no-decision

Canning did not factor into the decision in a win over the Tigers on Saturday, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.

Canning got himself into trouble out of the gate after giving up singles to two of the first two batters he faced, eventually leading to one run coming home for Detroit in the first. He would find himself in a similar situation in the fourth, surrendering back-to-back singles to open the frame before allowing two more runs to come across. The right-hander still managed to get through six innings for the fifth time in his last six starts, though he's now allowed four earned runs in three of his last four. Canning has also been tagged for at least one home run in four consecutive outings and has posted five or more strikeouts only one time in six starts this month.

  • Angels' Mike Trout: Eyeing July return

Trout (knee) said Saturday that he's basically pain-free and expects to be reinstated from the injured list by the end of July, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Trout has yet to start running.

Manager Ron Washington indicated Saturday that Trout was close to resuming baseball activities and Trout said he'd be back prior to August. The 32-year-old claimed he's pain-free outside of occasional soreness in his left knee as he recovers from surgery on a torn meniscus in May. Considering he's missed two months of action, it's likely he'll require a rehab assignment before being cleared.

  • Angels' Brandon Drury: Still out of lineup

Drury (illness) isn't part of the starting lineup Saturday against Detroit.

Drury will be held out of the starting lineup for a ninth consecutive contest and it's unclear how close he is to returning. Luis Rengifo will bat second and play second base.

  • Angels' Andrew Wantz: Promoted to majors

The Angels recalled Wantz from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

Wantz has spent the entire season in Triple-A, though he missed nearly two months due to a right forearm injury. Since returning from the IL, he's allowed nine runs (eight earned) in just six innings over three appearances. Despite his poor performance, he'll join the Halos as a replacement for Zach Plesac, who was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Six of Wantz's seven appearances in the minors this year have been as a starter, though he'll likely be used as a reliever while in Los Angeles.

  • Angels' Zach Plesac: Optioned to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Plesac to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

Plesac has struggled in three starts with the Angels this season, giving up 11 runs in 12 innings while striking out five batters and walking seven. He'll return to Salt Lake in an effort to get back on track, but he hasn't been much better in the minors with a 5.42 ERA through 13 starts with the Bees. Andrew Wantz will come up from Triple-A to fill the vacancy in Los Angeles' pitching staff.

  • Angels' Patrick Sandoval: Undergoes internal brace surgery

Sandoval (elbow) underwent successful surgery to repair the UCL in his left elbow Wednesday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Sandoval was diagnosed with a high-grade flexor tear and a torn UCL in his left elbow after departing early from his start against the Dodgers on June 21. The left-hander is expected to miss at least one year of action due to the injury. Per Sam Blum of The Athletic, Sandoval had an internal brace procedure.

  • Angels' Mike Trout: Nears return to baseball activities

Trout (knee) is getting close to returning to baseball activities, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Trout experienced some soreness in his left knee in mid-June but said this week that he's feeling better. Angels manager Ron Washington subsequently indicated that the future Hall of Famer is nearing a return to baseball activities, though he didn't specify the nature of those activities or a clear timeframe. Trout has been working out on a stationary bike and elliptical, though he remains several weeks away from being ready to be activated from the injured list.

  • Angels' Adam Cimber: Throwing from 90 feet

Cimber (shoulder) threw from 90 feet Monday and Thursday, per MLB.com.

Cimber was placed on the injured list June 15 due to right shoulder inflammation one day after a poor outing against San Francisco , though he reportedly had been getting treatment on the shoulder prior to that appearance. The righty reliever appears to be making progress in his recovery given his recent throwing. However, it's unclear when Cimber might be ready to return to the Angels' bullpen.

  • Angels' Jose Soriano: Set to return next week

Soriano (abdomen) is expected to start one of the Angels' contests in Oakland during a three-game series that begins July 2, per MLB.com.

Soriano landed on the injured list June 20 with an infection in his abdomen, and the team believes he will be ready to return after the minimum 15-day stay. Since the move to the injured list was retroactive to June 17, that means the right-hander can be activated as soon as July 2. Soriano has been throwing from 120 feet as well as playing long toss in preparation for a return.

  • Angels' Anthony Rendon: Set to face live pitching

Rendon (hamstring) will face live pitching next Thursday or Friday and could return to action July 8 versus Texas, Michael Huntley of The Sporting Tribune reports.

Rendon has been participating in a variety of baseball activities -- including taking grounders, batting in the cage and running the bases -- so taking swings against live pitching is the logical next step in his quest to return from a left hamstring strain. Angels manager Ron Washington indicated Friday that he hopes the veteran third baseman can return for the beginning of a home series against the Rangers that kicks off July 8, though that date is certainly not set in stone. Rendon recently indicated that he's considering agreeing to a rehab assignment ahead of his return, but it doesn't appear he's made a decision on that topic at this point.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Slugs decisive homer

    O'Hoppe went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Friday's 5-2 win against Detroit.

O'Hoppe broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with his three-run blast to left field. The backstop has struggled at the plate of late, going just 6-for-33 (.182 average) with 12 strikeouts over his past 10 games, though he has two homers and six RBI during that stretch. O'Hoppe is one of six catchers in the league this season with double-digit home runs, and he ranks eighth among backstops with 37 RBI.

He's produced four multi-hit performances in his last five games, boosting his season OPS from .770 to .808 in the process. Rengifo is slashing .315/.361/.447 with 18 extra-base hits, 20 steals and 34 runs scored this season.

  • Angels' Carlos Estevez: Secures 16th save

Estevez threw a perfect ninth inning to earn a save over Detroit on Friday.

Estevez needed only nine pitches to sit down the heart of the Tigers' lineup in order. He's up to 16 saves on the year and has converted 10 straight chances. Since blowing his last save May 10, Estevez has given up just one earned run over 14.1 innings. He's lowered his season ERA to 3.12 with an impressive 27:3 K:BB through 26 appearances.

  • Angels' Zach Plesac: Struggles with command

Plesac yielded two runs on a hit and four walks over 2.2 innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out three during the win over Detroit.

Plesac retired eight straight batters to begin the game before unraveling in the third inning. With two outs in the frame, he put five straight runners on base and walked in a pair of runs. He posted a quality start in his season debut but has been tagged with eight runs in six frames over his last two outings, shooting his season ERA up to 8.25. As things stand, Plesac is lined up to start in Oakland next week, but it's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation.
