  • Athletics' Seth Brown: Tearing up Triple-A pitching

Brown, who was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas on June 18, owns a .400 average and 1.234 OPS over the 44 plate appearances he's logged since joining the Aviators.

Brown is right back in his element within the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, where he once ran roughshod over pitchers to the tune of a 37-home-run, 104-RBI season back in 2019. He hasn't truly approximated that caliber of production in the big leagues despite belting at least 20 homers on two occasions with the Athletics, and he was having a career-worst season when he was demoted earlier in June. However, Brown has rediscovered his power stroke in Vegas for the time being, with his five homers and 14 RBI already nearly matching the numbers he'd produced with Oakland over 54 additional games.

  • Athletics' Kyle Muller: Allows run in second rehab outing

Muller (shoulder) allowed an earned run on two hits and two walks over 1.1 innings in a relief appearance for Triple-A Las Vegas against Sacramento on Friday. He struck out one.

Muller's second rehab outing didn't quite go as smoothly as his first, when he'd fired a scoreless frame against the River Cats on Tuesday. Nevertheless, the veteran southpaw was able to work up to 31 pitches, and although he only located 17 for strikes, he seemingly corroborated his shoulder is capable of handling a normal relief workload. Consequently, Muller may not be much longer for his rehab assignment, with the potential to be activated at some point in the coming days if he doesn't experience any residual effects from Friday's volume.

  • Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Another stellar long-relief effort

Bido fired 4.2 scoreless relief innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing two hits and three walks while recording two strikeouts. He also uncorked a wild pitch and hit a batter.

Bido's control was an issue at times as his final line indicates; otherwise, the young right-hander delivered his second effective innings-eating performance of the past week, this time preserving the rest of the bullpen after starter Hogan Harris was chased in the fourth inning. Bido ended up throwing nearly as many pitches (62) as Harris' 73, so the former is likely to be unavailable until the middle of the week at the earliest. However, the 28-year-old may be carving out a legitimate niche for himself in Oakland's relief corps for the time being after struggling over 2.2 innings against the Rangers in his one major-league start this season on May 8.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Falls flat versus Arizona

Harris (1-2) allowed three runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three over 3.1 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Diamondbacks.

Just two of the 10 hits against Harris went for extra bases, but he put too much traffic on the bases in each of the first four innings. The Athletics offered next to nothing in terms of offense, tallying two hits and a walk in the 3-0 loss. Harris had gone at least five innings in each of his previous five outings since he was recalled to the majors May 30. He's now at a 3.18 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB through 39.2 innings over eight appearances (six starts) this season. The southpaw is tentatively projected to make his next start at home in a tough matchup versus the Orioles.

  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Sitting again Saturday

Butler is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Even with Arizona sending right-hander Zac Gallen to the mound Saturday, the lefty-hitting Butler will begin the game in the dugout. Daz Cameron will start in right field and bat fifth.

  • Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Out of lineup Saturday

Nevin is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against Arizona.

For the second straight game, Nevin will be in the dugout while Armando Alvarez starts at third base. Since making his major-league debut June 22, Alvarez has gone 6-for-12 with one RBI and one stolen base, and his encouraging play over the last week could mean the rookie and Nevin split starts in the infield until Abraham Toro (hamstring) returns from the injured list after the All-Star break.

  • Athletics' Scott Alexander: Picks up first win Friday

Alexander (1-2) got the victory over the Diamondbacks on Friday, allowing an earned run on a hit and a walk over one inning.

Alexander was the first reliever out of the bullpen following JP Sears' impressive six-inning start, and while the former did falter by allowing a Ketel Marte go-ahead RBI single, he was able to limit the damage to that one run. Alexander then became the beneficiary of a three-run eighth-inning rally by Oakland, which gave the A's a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Alexander posted a career-high seven wins with the Giants in 2023, but Friday's victory was his first of this season and came in an outing where he was scored upon for the fifth time in eight appearances.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Goes deep in win

Soderstrom went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Soderstrom has hit all but one of his homers this season over his last 17 games, batting .262 (16-for-61) in that span. The 22-year-old is at a .229/.321/.449 slash line with seven homers, 18 RBI, 12 runs scored and five doubles across 41 contests overall. He's seeing regular playing time at first base against right-handed pitchers.

  • Athletics' Max Schuemann: Records fifth steal

Schuemann went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one stolen base in Friday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Schuemann supplied a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and an RBI single in the eighth. The 27-year-old has gone 21 games without a multi-hit effort since his 4-for-4 performance in Atlanta on June 1. He was hitting .266 after that game, but he's at .226 now while adding a .630 OPS, three home runs, 15 RBI, 26 runs scored and five steals across 61 contests.

  • Athletics' Zack Gelof: Gets aboard four times in win

Gelof went 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk, one RBI, one stolen base and two runs scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Gelof had gone 2-for-17 over his previous five contests before his big game Friday. The second baseman's triple was his second of the campaign and his first extra-base hit since June 20. He's at a .205/.259/.362 slash line with eight home runs, 22 RBI, 25 runs scored and nine steals across 62 games this year.

  • Athletics' Daz Cameron: Pops third homer

Cameron went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

The Athletics hit a trio of solo shots in the ninth inning to run away with this game. Cameron's blast was his third of the year and just his second hit over his last nine contests. He's at a .177/.250/.355 slash line with six RBI, seven runs scored and one stolen base through 68 plate appearances. Cameron's lack of consistency at the plate is likely to keep him in a part-time role as he competes with Lawrence Butler for playing time in right field.

  • Athletics' Brent Rooker: Reaches 15-homer mark

Rooker went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Friday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Rooker has homered twice over the last three games and has knocked seven extra-base hits over his last 16 contests. The 29-year-old's homer Friday was his 15th of the season, putting him just slightly behind the pace to match his 30-homer campaign from 2023. He's added 47 RBI, 29 runs scored, two stolen bases and a .264/.340/.516 slash line across 69 contests as one of the Athletics' more reliable hitters.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Fills box score in win

Langeliers went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Langeliers entered Friday 0-for-12 with five strikeouts over his last three games. After striking out in his first at-bat, he snapped the slump with an RBI single in the third inning and added a solo shot in the ninth. The catcher is up to a .205/.259/.439 slash line with 15 homers, 41 RBI, 26 runs scored and three stolen bases over 266 plate appearances this season, with three of his homers and 12 of his RBI coming over 20 contests in June.

  • Athletics' JP Sears: Bounces back with quality start

Sears allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks.

Sears had been tagged for 12 runs over 5.2 innings across his previous two starts. He bounced back Friday, turning in his second quality start over five appearances in June, though he wasn't able to snap a winless skid that's now up to six games. The southpaw is now at a 5.00 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 62:29 K:BB over 90 innings through 17 starts. Sears hasn't displayed much upside and isn't likely to get much support in most games, making him a risky fantasy play. He's projected for a home start versus the Angels his next time out.

  • Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Sitting Friday

Nevin is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Diamondbacks.

Nevin will begin Friday's contest in the dugout after going 1-for-7 with three walks, one home run and two RBI over the recent three-game series against the Angels. Armando Alvarez will start at third base and bat seventh against Diamondbacks right-hander Slade Cecconi.

  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Sitting Friday

Butler is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against Arizona.

Since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on June 18, Butler has gone 4-for-25 with one RBI and a 34.6 percent strikeout rate over nine contests. Daz Cameron will start in right field Friday and bat sixth against Diamondbacks right-hander Slade Cecconi.
