  • Rangers' Tyler Mahle: Rehab assignment coming

Mahle (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Mahle is scheduled to throw a bullpen session a Camden Yards this weekend, per Texas manager Bruce Bochy, prior to joining Round Rock. If all goes well, the right-hander could be part of the Rangers' rotation by the beginning of August. Mahle is working his way back from Tommy John surgery he underwent last May.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: To visit specialist

Jung will visit a specialist Monday to evaluate his surgically repaired right wrist, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

The Rangers pulled back on Jung's hitting progression Saturday for a second time this week. "A couple of days ago he was feeling really good," Texas manager Bruce Bochy said. "We were optimistic he would be swinging [Saturday]. There is still just a little soreness in there. We want to get rid of that before we ramp him up again." The team had prepared for Jung's return this week, but depending on how Monday's visit goes, he may not be ready until after the All-Star break. Once he's been medically cleared, Jung will require a ramp-up that could include more rehab games.

  • Rangers' Derek Hill: Smacks homer in loss

Hill went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Orioles.

Hill briefly put the Rangers ahead 2-1 when he took Cade Povich deep in the fifth inning. Hill has hit safely in each of his three games since he was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, though he's also struck out four times over 10 plate appearances in that span. He's hitting .263 (5-for-19) with two stolen bases in the majors this year, and he's likely to function as a fourth outfielder as long as he's up with the Rangers.

  • Rangers' Adolis Garcia: Solo shot in Saturday's loss

Garcia went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a double in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Orioles.

Garcia's blast got the Rangers within a run in the eighth inning, but they failed to tie the game. The outfielder has hit safely in eight of the last nine games, going 10-for-35 (.286) with three homers and four RBI in that span. He's still slashing just .220/.280/.422 on the year with 16 long balls, 44 RBI, 43 runs scored, six stolen bases and 12 doubles across 79 contests.

  • Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Lifts fourth homer

Lowe went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Orioles.

Lowe has four multi-hit efforts over his last nine games, a span that also includes two of his four homers this year. The first baseman has never displayed elite power, but his .369 slugging percentage for the season is low even by his standard. He's at least been fairly consistent at the plate, batting .262 with 27 RBI, 25 runs scored, two stolen bases and 11 doubles over 62 contests.

  • Rangers' Michael Lorenzen: Handed loss Saturday

Lorenzen (4-4) allowed five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three over five innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Orioles.

Lorenzen gave up a solo home run to Anthony Santander and a grand slam to Heston Kjerstad. This outing ended a few impressive stretches for Lorenzen -- it was the first time in nine starts he allowed more than three runs, and it also marked the first time in his last four appearances that he issued multiple walks. Given his success this yea (3.40 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 58:35 K:BB over 82 innings across 14 starts), it's safe to assume this was just a blip against a tough opponent. He'll look to rebound in his next outing, which is projected to be at home versus the Rays.

  • Rangers' Corey Seager: X-rays negative

Seager's (wrist) X-rays came back negative and he'll undergo further evaluation Sunday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Seager was hit in the left wrist by a pitch during Saturday's game against the Orioles and was immediately removed from the contest. Considering he looked to be in significant pain, Seager's X-rays returning negative is certainly an encouraging sign. Sill, it seems like he'll be held out of Sunday's series finale.

Seager was hit in the left wrist by a pitch in the fifth inning and immediately exited the game, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Taveras isn't in the Rangers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles.

  • Rangers' Leody Taveras: Finishing month on upswing

Taveras went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and an RBI in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Orioles.

Taveras had a bases-loaded walk and swiped his ninth bag in the loss. He's set up for a fourth consecutive season of double-digit steals. The outfielder was having a brutal month, but he's finishing June on an upswing. After enduring a 2-for-45 (.044) stretch over 14 games, Taveras has hit safely in seven of the subsequent 10 contests, going 9-for-29 (.310) with three steals, a home run, five RBI and an additional three runs scored.

  • Rangers' Austin Pruitt: Rehabbing in rookie ball

Pruitt (knee) began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Friday.

Pruitt has been on the injured list since late April due to a right meniscus injury, and he's now been given the go-ahead to begin playing in games. The Rangers haven't provided any details regarding the planned duration of Pruitt's rehab stint, but he'll likely need to make a few appearances with a minor-league affiliate before coming off the injured list. There's also no guarantee the 34-year-old reports to the Rangers upon being activated, as he allowed six earned runs in just 4.1 MLB innings before getting hurt.

  • Rangers' Max Scherzer: Allows two runs in loss

Scherzer (1-1) took the loss against the Orioles on Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

Scherzer surrendered a solo home run to Colton Cowser in the fourth inning and an RBI single to Gunnar Henderson in the fifth. He retired the first batter of the sixth frame but was pulled at 77 pitches, as he is still building up his pitch count. The 39-year-old passed Greg Maddux for 11th on the all-time strikeout list and now has 3,375 career punchouts. In two starts this season, he owns a 1.74 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB over 10.1 innings and lines up to face the Padres next week.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Swing test pushed back

Jung (wrist) will have his swing test pushed back to Saturday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Jung was slated to swing a bat Friday, but he'll have that evaluation pushed back a day. He has been on the injured list since April 2 with a fractured right wrist, and his rehab program with Triple-A Round Rock was shut down due to tendon inflammation. Jung could be activated off the injured list soon if his wrist checks out OK on Saturday, though he'll likely be eased back into the action with planned off days once he does return.

  • Rangers' Jonah Heim: Out of lineup Friday

Heim is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Baltimore.

Heim will get a break after starting the last four games for the Rangers, during which he went 6-for-14 with a solo home run. Andrew Knizner will take over catching duties and bat eighth.

  • Rangers' Josh Jung: Will swing bat Friday

Jung (wrist) will attempt to swing a bat Friday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Jung's return has been delayed due to inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist, but he's ready to test things out swinging a bat after resting for a week and receiving a cortisone shot. The third baseman could be activated soon if things go well in the cage Friday, but when Jung does return he might be eased back into action by playing every other day or receiving one off day per series, according to Grant. Jung has been sidelined since early April.
