The 2012 NBA champion Miami Heat officially added another rotation piece on Wednesday, signing unrestricted free agent forward Rashard Lewis. Lewis reportedly agreed to take a veteran's minimum deal worth $1.3 million.
Lewis, 32, has earned more than $130 million in his NBA career and for years boasted one of the NBA's largest contracts. The Orlando Magic traded him to the Washington Wizards during the 2010-11 season. Earlier this summer, the Wizards traded him to the New Orleans Hornets, who bought out the 2012-13 year of his contract. That trade and buyout saved New Orleans cap space and made Lewis an unrestricted free agent.
Known mostly for his shooting ability, Lewis holds career averages of 16.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in a 14-year career that began straight out of high school. He'll mostly provide injury insurance for Miami's forwards.
The Heat also announced the official signing of guard Ray Allen on Wednesday.
