Charlotte Hornets forward Jeff Taylor won't appeal the 24-game suspension the NBA gave him for domestic violence, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski

NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced the punishment on Wednesday, issuing a lengthy statement explaining that, "while the suspension is significantly longer than prior suspensions for incidents of domestic violence by NBA players, it is appropriate in light of Mr. Taylor's conduct, the need to deter similar conduct going forward, and the evolving social consensus -- with which we fully concur -- that professional sports leagues like the NBA must respond to such incidents in a more rigorous way."

The NBPA released a statement on Thursday calling Silver's decision "excessive, without precedent," and a violation of the CBA. It also said the union was "ready to file an immediate appeal on his behalf." In choosing, though, to accept the 24-game suspension rather than contest it, Taylor is saving himself a lot of trouble. The best thing for him to do is to quietly sit out, then address the matter and work on repairing his relationship with the team and its fans.
