The Chargers (7-9) won 24-21 over the hated Raiders (4-12) in the season finale on Sunday. It was an average performance by the Bolts -- but good enough to beat a below-average team.

But it wasn't enough to save the jobs of Chargers head coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith, who were both fired by team owner Dean Spanos on Monday.

Offense: C

The offense didn’t make any huge mistakes, but it certainly wasn’t dynamic. QB Philip Rivers completed 13 of 17 passes for 151 yards with two TDs. There was a greater commitment to the running game than normal. However, 31 carries only netted 70 yards for a dismal 2.3 yards per carry average. The only thing worth celebrating was that Rivers didn’t throw any interceptions and finished the season with just 15 picks, five fewer than his career high of 20 last season. But protecting the ball should be normal, not the exception. Previous game’s grade: C

Defense: B

QB Terrelle Pryor made his first career start. A week earlier, the defense sacked Jets QB Greg McElroy 11 times in his first career start. Pryor proved to be much more elusive and avoided being sacked altogether. Overall, the defense did do a good job in containing Pryor. He completed just 13 of 28 passes for 150 yards with two TDs and one INT for a mediocre passer rating of 72.0. Previous game’s grade: A-

Special Teams: C

WR-KR Micheal Spurlock took the game’s opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. However, Spurlock’s return masked an otherwise dismal special-teams performance. A running into the kicker penalty extended a Raiders drive. P Mike Scifres had five punts, but none ended inside the 20. A blocked punt late in the game gave the Raiders a quick TD and brought them within a field goal of completing a 17-point fourth quarter comeback. Previous game’s grade: A-

Coaching: C

Does it really matter? As expected, coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith were fired on Monday. Turner deserves some props for keeping his team together when everyone knew change was coming, but winning meaningful games is what really counts. Previous game’s grade: B
