Red Bryant re-signs with Seahawks on five-year deal

The Seahawks re-signed Red Bryant for a five-year deal that is reportedly worth $35 million with $14.5 million guaranteed.

We're quite high on defensive lineman Red Bryant -- he was our eighth-ranked free agent going into the 2012 offseason. Seattle's also quite high on the guy, as they've signed him to a five-year contract worth a reported $35 million.

Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network first reported the news, and Adam Schefter of ESPN reports on the numbers, noting that the deal for Bryant includes $14.5 million guaranteed.

Bryant's a lesser-known name because his numerical production isn't through the roof. But it's not all about getting sacks; Bryant flourished in Pete Carroll's defense last year as a run-stuffing, space-filler who also happens to be able to bust out a high-step into the end zone.

Red was a fourth-round pick by the Seahawks in 2008 and started just eight games before last season. But in 2011, he stepped up and started all 16 games.

The Seahawks risked losing Bryant to free agency by not using their franchise tag on him, but ultimately they got the defensive lineman back on the roster at a reasonable cost, and through his prime.
