  • Sharks' Colton Roberts: Latest value pick

Roberts was the 131st overall pick by the Sharks in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

A first-round draft pick (No. 11 overall) by Vancouver in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft, Roberts remains a work in progress. He skates well and makes a solid first pass, but that hasn't translated into much offense for the Giants thus far, as Roberts has just 10 goals and 39 points in 129 CHL games. The biggest flaw in Roberts' game is his inconsistency in man-on-man defending. The good news is that Roberts is one of the younger players in the draft, having just turned 18 in early June. He'll have plenty of time to iron out the deficiencies in his game.

  • Sharks' Carson Wetsch: Value pick for San Jose

Wetsch was the 82nd overall pick by the Sharks in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Wetsch was a good source of secondary scoring for WHL Calgary this past season, finishing with 25 goals and 50 points in 67 games. Much more of a finisher than a playmaker, Wetsch is the type of high-energy player who is noticeable on the ice almost every shift. His game lacks pace at times, and he may not have the all-around skill set to crack an NHL lineup, but Wetsch has consistently improved throughout his brief junior career. He's not without pedigree after being the No. 12 overall selection in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft.

  • Sharks' Leo Sahlin Wallenius: Stolen by Sharks in Round 2

Sahlin Wallenius was the 53rd overall pick by the Sharks in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Led by his mobility, Sahlin Wallenius was reportedly in the late first-round conversation for some teams, making him a pretty good get at this point. He moves well enough to consistently and effectively carry the puck through the neutral zone and his offense abilites are at least solid average. There's a lack of physicality to the Swede's defensive game, but like many modern-day NHL players, Sahlin Wallenius does a decent enough job in his own zone as the result of his speed and smarts. He has the look of a high-floor defensive prospect with legitimate long-term, middle-pair upside.

  • Sharks' Igor Chernyshov: First pick of Round 2

Chernyshov was the 33rd overall pick by the Sharks in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Mocked as high as the middle of Round 1, Chernyshov looks like an obvious steal for San Jose with the first pick of Round 2. He is a big, strong power forward who has consistently put up big offensive numbers in the Russian Jr. league. Chernyshov excels at using his big frame to carve out space in front of the net, and he can really shoot the puck. The Sharks have done an excellent job adding to their prospect pool the past two days, with Chernyshov being their latest find.

  • Sharks' Sam Dickinson: On way to San Jose

Dickinson was the 11th overall pick by the Sharks in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Dickinson has top-four written all over him. He's a fantastic skater with Noah Hanifin smoothness. He doesn't overthink and is confident in his game. While he put up 70 points in 68 games for the London Knights (OHL), Dickinson projects as more of a top-four, even-strength machine whose power-play time will come on the second unit. He could also be a top-pairing ballast for a wheeling-and-dealing partner. Dickinson will bring multi-category value, including 35-40 points, to your fantasy squad in his prime.

  • Sharks' Macklin Celebrini: Franchise center first draft pick

Celebrini was the first overall pick by the Sharks in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft on Friday.

Celebrini won't win many Art Ross or Hart trophies, largely because he's playing in the Connor Bedard era. But Celebrini's high-end skating, elite skill and hockey sense, and relentless motor on-and-off the puck may make him the better all-round player. At 17 years old, Celebrini won the NCAA's Hobey Baker Award after recording one of the best under-18 seasons in NCAA history for Boston (32 goals, 32 assists; 38 games). There are scouts who say his drive reminds them of Sidney Crosby. Celebrini is an elite talent who will make an immediate impact in San Jose and could quickly become one of their best players of all time.

  • Sharks' Carl Grundstrom: On his way to San Jose

Grundstrom was traded to San Jose from Los Angeles for Kyle Burroughs on Thursday.

Grundstrom had eight goals and four points in 50 regular-season games for the Kings this season, before missing the final 32 contests with a lower-body injury. He returned to play in all five first-round playoff games versus Edmonton but was unable to garner a point. Grundstrom should have an opportunity to see top-six minutes with the Sharks, who are lacking in offensive depth at this time.

  • Sharks' Jake Walman: Acquired in trade

San Jose acquired Walman and a 2024 second-round pick from Detroit on Tuesday in exchange for future considerations.

Walman produced 12 goals, 21 points, 108 shots on net and 151 blocked shots in 63 games during the 2023-24 campaign. The 28-year-old defender has two more seasons left on his three-year, $10.2 million contract. As a member of the Sharks, Walman could occupy a top-four role and see power-play time.

  • Sharks' Egor Afanasyev: Acquired in trade

San Jose acquired Afanasyev from Nashville on Sunday in exchange for Ozzy Wiesblatt.

Afanasyev has appeared in 19 NHL contests over the past two seasons, collecting one goal, 26 shots on net, 15 blocked shots and 29 hits. The 23-year-old forward registered 27 goals and 54 points in 56 regular-season games for AHL Milwaukee in 2023-24.

  • Sharks' Barclay Goodrow: Claimed off waivers

Goodrow was claimed off waivers by the Sharks from the Rangers on Wednesday, per Chris Johnston of The Athletic.

Goodrow recorded 33 points in 2021-22 and 31 points in 2022-23, but he declined this campaign to four goals and 12 points across 80 regular-season appearances. The 31-year-old was still a physical presence, though, recording 78 PIM and 171 hits. He also stepped up in the 2024 playoffs, supplying six goals, eight points, 12 PIM, 41 hits and 29 blocks in 16 outings. He figures to serve in a third-line capacity for San Jose, which is the franchise where he made his NHL debut back in 2014. The Sharks will also be taking the final three seasons of his six-year, $21.85 million contract.

  • Sharks' Ty Dellandrea: Shipped to Sharks

Dellandrea was acquired by the Sharks from the Stars on Wednesday in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick.

Dellandrea had two goals, nine points, 23 PIM and 63 hits in 42 regular-season appearances with Dallas in 2023-24. The 23-year-old should be in the conversation for a bottom-six spot with San Jose going into training camp. However, the Sharks first need to re-sign Dellandrea, who completed his one-year, $900,000 contract and is set to become a restricted free agent in July.

  • Sharks' Nathan Todd: Hits unconditional waivers

Todd was placed on unconditional waivers Tuesday for the purpose of contract termination, per CapFriendly.

Todd generated 19 goals and 55 points in 69 regular-season contests for AHL San Jose during the 2023-24 campaign. The 28-year-old forward doesn't have any NHL experience yet. Per Max Miller of The Hockey News, Todd intends to sign in Russia for the 2024-25 season.

  • Sharks' Will Smith: Pens entry-level deal

Smith inked a three-year, entry-level contract with San Jose on Tuesday.

Smith put together a fantastic freshman campaign with Boston College this season, racking up 25 goals and 46 assists in 41 appearances for the Eagles. Rather than returning for another year, the 19-year-old center will make the jump to the professional ranks ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Selected by the organization with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, Smith figures to enter the NHL immediately and should be in contention for a top-six role next year.

  • Sharks' Luca Cagnoni: Secures entry-level deal

Cagnoni agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with San Jose on Wednesday.

Cagnoni set new personal bests in goals (18), assists (72) and points (90) in 65 regular-season games for WHL Portland this season before adding another 13 points in 13 postseason contests. While the 19-year-old blueliner likely faces an uphill battle, his offensive upside could see him force his way on to the Sharks' 23-man roster for the Opening Night of the 2024-25 campaign.

  • Sharks' Logan Couture: Feeling better

Couture (groin) is feeling better and hopes to resume skating in July, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports.

Couture was limited to just six appearances in 2023-24, supplying one assist and seven shots on goal. He is optimistic that he will be ready for training camp in the fall. Couture racked up 27 goals and 67 points in 82 contests during the 2022-23 campaign.

  • Sharks' Fabian Zetterlund: Lone marker in finale

Zetterlund scored a goal on a team-high four shots in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Flames.

Zetterlund broke up Dustin Wolf's shutout bid with just nine seconds remaining in the third period, roofing a wrister to get the Sharks on the board. The 24-year-old Zetterlund finished the season strong, posting six goals and 12 points in his final 13 contests. He'll wrap up the campaign with 24 goals and 44 points, both career highs -- he figures to play a major role on a rebuilding Sharks team again in 2024-25.
